Microfinance: Poverty, Profits & Promises

Featuring: Chris Dunford, Ananya Roy, Ayesha Wagle

Premal Shah & Eric Weaver

Poverty panacea or predatory lending?  Social mission or super-profits?  Economic opportunity for the poor or mounting burdens of debt?

The headlines about microfinance have veered between sensationalist extremes. This panel takes us beyond and behind the headlines to examine microfinance's poverty alleviation capacity, to debate the profit impulse, and to share promising new frontiers of innovation.

This event is hosted in together with the Blum Center for Developing Economies at UC Berkeley.
